Taylor Swift, leading American singer/songwriter and global phenomenon, has gone through some major changes within the past year. Let’s not sugarcoat it; the old Taylor is dead. Clubcrawlers has you covered on what we’ve learned about the new Taylor from her new hit album, Reputation.
1. She is Expressively Unapologetic
Tay-Tay has a reputation, and isn’t afraid to talk about it. Throughout her chart-topping album, Taylor
constantly references a reputation that has been building up from her controversial and honest lyrics, her
dating life, and all the celebrity-drama in between. The following lyrics from several songs on Reputation
highlight her newfound persona.
“Big reputation, you and me we got big reputations. And you heard about me. You like the bad ones too?”-
End Games ft Ed Sheeran and Future
“All the liars are calling me one, nobody’s heard from me for months” – Call it What You Want
“My reputation’s never been worse so, you must like me for me.” – Delicate
We can’t imagine what it would be like growing up as worldwide sensation, Taylor Swift, but hey girl –
you do you! She has a reputation, but we for one love the fact that she embraces it.
2. All Black Everything
Along with Taylor’s new racy lyrics comes a fresh new look. It seems as though Taylor has ditched her
usual high-waisted everything for baggy black sweaters and messy hair. Her iconic red lips however,
never go out of “style”.
3. Taylor is a Drinker
Taylor references drinking alcoholic beverages a total of nine times throughout Reputation, which is
something that has never been mentioned before on any of her previous albums.
“Island breeze, and lights down low.” – Ready For It
“Drinking on a beach, with you all over me.” – End Game
“…but you can make me a drink.” – Delicate
“Whiskey on ice, sunset and vine.” – Gorgeous
“I knew it from the first Old Fashioned, we were cursed.” – Getaway Car
“…drinking beer out of plastic cups.” – King of My Heart
“I’m spilling wine in the bathtub. You kiss my face and we’re both drunk.” – Dress
“Everyone swimming in a champagne sea.” – This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
“…cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day.” – New Year’s Day
I think it’s safe to say, Taylor Swift is a drinker, and still awesome.
4. Taylor can Conquer ANY Music Genre
If there’s one thing we know for sure from listening to Reputation, it’s that the track list is so extremely versatile and yet Taylor’s vocals sounds brilliant on every single track. Whether it’s pop, R&B, EDM, or acoustic, (and let’s not forget her country-song past), Taylor is able to make it sound appealing. From the trance-like “Dancing with our Hands Tied” to the blissful ballad “New Year’s Day”, there’s no other way to say it. Taylor killed it. 5. Taylor Swift is in Love
Last but not certainly not least, Taylor seems to have fallen deeply in love with year-long boyfriend, Joe
Alwyn. Given the amount of heartbreak and unlucky drama from relationships in the past, we are so
happy for Taylor and her newfound love. As she states from various references in the album, she has
finally found the gorgeous King of her heart, and doesn’t want to let this one go.
